Noemí Pascual’s dolls are fully handmade pieces in one-twelfth scale. They are made of polymer clay: Sculpey “Living Doll”.
Each part of the doll is individually sculpted. No mould or cast is used throughout the whole creation process, what makes these dolls truly OOAK pieces.
After the sculpting of the figure, it’s baked to 130ºC for 15-30 minutes. Once the pieces have been baked, they are smoothly sandpapered and polished before being painted by hand in acrylics and oils.
Once the pieces have been painted, it’s time to joint them and assemble the doll, before proceeding to the hair styling and wigging process. Wigs are made of mohair or viscose.
Finally, Noemí designs and makes the patterns for clothes, always using natural fabrics: silk, fine cotton, linen, wool… Unless otherwise stated, costumes’ design is hers own.
In most of the dolls, arms and thighs are made of cotton braid covered wire, what gives them some mobility. Nevertheless they are not intended to take positions different from the original one, since each doll has its own character, revealed through its facial expression as well as through hands, trunk and neck’s posture; even the clothes show the hangs and folds according to the doll’s intended position.
